I would like to give you a tour of the Rose Hill Inn. One of the most enjoyable parts of being an innkeeper is giving our newly registered guests a tour of the rooms. If you would like a vidio tour of the Inn, please press VIDIO PROFILE on the right side of the page to which you will be redirected. The mansion that has become the Rose Hill Inn was built in 1859-60 by William Butler, a prominent Marshall merchant and banker. It was the main house of a 60 acre farm. It is an excellent example of the Italianate, or Italian Villa style of architecture popular in the mid-nineteenth century. The exterior is typically square and symetrical, and usually has a cupula or tower. Interiors often feature large rooms with high ceilings and large windows.
 |
The tour begins in the front hall. The entry has a magnificent curved staircase. The original woodwork is of a scale that matches the Inn's 12 foot ceilings. The seven-foot antique sideboard is the first of the many beautiful antiques that furnish the Inn. |
 |
There are two parlors at Rose Hill. This is the front parlor, and it contains some of the most beautiful furniture in the Inn: the 1896 grand piano, a highly carved sofa and chairs, and the red velvet tete-a-tete, or courting chair. A highly-carved Victorian parlor set completes the furnishings. The two parlors have matching antique brass chandeliers featuring molded bunches of grapes and leaves. The original interior shutters are the last of those that once covered all of the windows of the house.

Breakfast is served in the formal dining room under a crystal chandelier. The room features an original marble fireplace, Victorian furniture, and a floor stenciled with roses.
Breakfast typically consists of juice, fruit, yogurt, cereals, home-baked breads or muffins, a hot dish such as carmel-apple french toast with sausages or a quiche conclude the meal. |
